the science behind breaking(Tameshiwari)

i must admit, breaking is one part of martial arts that i like most. the feeling is satisfying! imagine you break solid object such as bricks, wood, etc with your bare hands. for a martial artist, breaking is a superb confidence booster.

what is the secret behind it?! based on personal experience, nothing but practice, practice, ....i mean lots of practice and proper training. it is not an overnight success. and by the way, let me stress this out. shortcuts don't work in martial arts! so next time when you see ads like learn karate in 2weeks, or get your black belt in 6 months -- that is a pure scam.

going back, other martial artist go away from breaking because it can caused cancer to your hand/s or i might break your bones. some says, human body is not meant to be stuck against hard objects. aside from proper training and deligent practice, what science has to say about it? can human bones tolerate such impact?!

ok, the answer is yes. hard body training actually transforms the bone itself. It is called Wolff's Law. a theory developed by the German Anatomist/Surgeon Julius Wolff(1836-1902) in the 19th century that states that bone in a healthy person or animal will adapt to the loads it is placed under. If loading on a particular bone increases, the bone will remodel itself over time to become stronger to resist that sort of loading.

Determining a non-commercialized dojo

It has been an issue today that martial arts had become commercialized. Sad, but that's true. Now where to learn a non-commercialized martial arts?! Do you need to go to China if you want to study kungfu? Or the biggest question – does it still exist?
The answer is YES. Where? That is what I am going to discuss. Determining a non-commercialized school. There are lots of ways and means to determine, however not everything will fit us.
There are 2 major ways to determine: 1.teaching martial arts is not the main source of income of the instructor. 2.Check the reputation of the school.
If the school you wanted to join, pass 1 & 2 category then you found the right place.
Ozz!

Martial Arts -- does anyone still care?

A friend of mine told me studying martial arts now adays is only good for health reasons, and does not apply anymore for self-defense. In modern times especially in urban areas, fist fighting is very, very, rare. Since most have their firearms, you can't get much use of your martial arts training. Actually martial arts is not just about punching or kicking someones ass. Martial arts is way to build a total person - physically and mentally. How?! Well, there are lots of comprehensive and scientific discussion out there about it. And I leave that to the experts :-) However in my experience, martial arts can build your confidence, physique, agility, and most of all how to stay compose on a stress situation. Now I guess no need to elaborate, how martial arts training can benefit you in a gun fight. Not to mention, it might help you in disarming or counter-disarming. Stay Safe :-)
